Lesson 2

Mia Mjau’s nappy song ♫

It’s time for a song!

In Tegn og Trall, we combine baby signs with singing and music.
This makes learning new signs easy and fun – and helps you remember them too!

In this lesson, you’ll learn the sign for NAPPY and Mia Mjau’s nappy song.

Let’s first learn the sign for NAPPY

Nappy

A way to remember:

One hand is your baby, lying still 😉😅 With your other hand, “draw” the nappy – under their bottom, between their legs and up over their tummy.

When to use it:

When it’s time for a nappy change, show the sign for NAPPY as you say, “Now we’re going to change your NAPPY.” Go to the changing table and repeat the sign once your baby is lying there, ready.

In time, your little one will understand exactly what NAPPY means – and either come with you to the changing table… or crawl away at full speed! 😂

Mia Mjau’s nappy song “Bytte bleie” (“Changing a Nappy”) ♫

Now we’re going to use singing and music to learn some more baby signs!

In “Bytte bleie”, you’ll learn several signs that are useful when changing a nappy.
Sing along and do the signs! 😸♫

Mia’s tips

Make nappy changes more fun with a song ♫

Once your baby learns to roll over, crawl, stand up or walk, nappy changes can suddenly become quite a challenge!

That’s when a song can be useful to have up your sleeve. Sing “Bytte bleie” while you change their nappy – this time without the signs, as your hands are busy with other important things! 😅

Perhaps the song will catch your little one’s attention and help them lie still? Either way, it can make nappy changes more fun for both of you.

Sing with the voice you have

Your baby doesn’t mind whether you hit every note or whether you think you have a “nice” singing voice. To your little one, yours is the loveliest voice in the world. ❤️

What matters most is that you sing and have fun together, however it sounds.

Connect the sign to the action

When you use a sign to tell your little one what’s about to happen, try to follow it with the action straight away. If you say and sign, “Now we’re going to EAT”, go and eat.

And when you say and sign, “Now we’re going to change your NAPPY”, head straight to the changing table.

Good luck with the signs – and remember: Sing, play and sign away!

Next lesson 🧀

Next time, I’ll tell you a true story about a little boy, some signs… and a cheese.
